I had the pleasure of creating two collages for a Teen Vogue piece about Black women’s reclamation of the term “hoochie.” This piece was especially fun for me interpret and work on as a Black femme because I grew up looking up to Black women who expressed themselves creatively despite the negative terminology being used against them. For these collages, I was really inspired by camp and kitschy textures such as animal print and faux fur, as well as the styling and hairdressing of the iconic film B*A*P*S (1997).
